Reliable information of wind movements is a critical requirement for air quality management. Polluting gases and particulates released from elevated industrial stacks disperse by a variety of mechanisms and by the time the pollutants reach the ground level their concentrations are reduced to a fraction of the emitted levels. The extent of dispersion and the resultant ground level concentrations (GLCs) depend upon local meteorological parameters like wind speed, wind direction, atmospheric turbulence or stability and the mixing height. Clearly, an objective assessment of GLCs and its likely impact on the local environment can only be made after obtaining reliable local wind data.

Mathematical modeling to predict air-quality implications is also becoming a vital tool to select appropriate development policies, project sites, green belts and buffer zones etc. Such predictions of likely ground-level concentrations would also be

The WM280 is the fifth generation of wind monitoring systems produced by Envirotech and incorporates many of the wishes & desires of our esteemed customers.

Unlimited Data Memory: To obtain meaningful trends Met Data is required for at least a season and often for a full year. Users of earlier models of Wind Monitoring systems felt constrained by the limited data memory of the Data-Logging equipment. The new WM280 incorporates a 8 GB non-volatile flash storage providing more than enough memory capacity for more than a year’s data at 1 min intervals. However, in order to keep file sizes within manageable limits the system automatically starts up data storage in a new file at a preset data limit. Software provided with the WM280 allows the user to merge files to obtain a single file for the full season.

needed from existing industries seeking clearance for expansion and /or process change. No air quality or pollutantdispersion modeling is possible without reliable information on the local wind trends and stability conditions at different times of the day and seasons of the year. Envirotech Wind Monitoring Systems have been used for past several years all over the country by consultants, industry and researchers to generate micrometeorological data. Feedback from this large body of users has often led to system upgrades.

Features

• USB Flash Storage of 8 GB provides sufficient memory for data of more
• Programmable recording interval od 1 min to 60 minutes
• New Battery backed power-pack with optional Solar Panel charger enables operation in open fields
• Reduced power consumption

Data Transfer to a USB Memory Stick: The new WM280 system allows data transfer to a USB Memory Stick so you do not have to bring the system to a PC for data transfer and long-term storage. For details on the COPY COMMAND see the section on operating instructions. It may be noted that when you copy data to an external drive it does not erase the data from internal memory of the system.

Programmable Averaging Time: With increased memory capacity the new WM280 can also be configured for short averaging times from 1 minute to 60 minutes. So, users can now record short duration peaks and use the system software to determine long-term averages and trends. All sensor values are checked by the system at ONE second intervals. These values are then used to compute averages as per the recording interval selected by the user.

New Power Pack: User of the WM271 have appreciated the utility of its in-built rechargeable battery power pack. Electronics of the new WM280 has further reduced current consumption and uses a very compact NI-MH battery designed to keep the entire system operational for at least 16 hours without mains power. An optional Solar panel-based charger is available which makes it possible to operate the WM280 in open terrain completely without dependence on mains power.

MIN, MAX and Average values recorded for several parameters: Besides Average values the WM280 system records MIN, MAX values for the following parameters: Ambient Temperature, Humidity, Wind Speed. This enables the user to get information on MAX / MIN Temperature or peak Wind Speed during periods of stormy weather.

Vector Averaging for Wind Speed & Direction: The new WM280 system treats wind movement as a VECTOR as it truly should be. So while computing averages (over the selected recording interval) the WIND SPEED and DIRECTION are related as the magnitude and direction of a WIND VECTOR and mathematically averaged. This implies that if the wind speed is actually ZERO (calm conditions) for a period of time the Direction automatically gets computed to ZERO (North Direction). It may be noted that during periods of calm one cannot really ascribe any direction to the minor wind movement / turbulence.

New Met Log Software: Data from Wind Monitoring systems is invariably transferred to a PC for long-term storage and trend analysis. With the new WM280 transfer of data is easily accomplished via a USB pen drive. Data files of the new system can be directly opened in MS Excel for trend analysis.

Diurnal Trends: Most met parameters show a distinct diurnal behavior. The new Software provides a powerful graph plotting utility that helps to analyze typical Temperature / RH, Solar Radiation data and spot diurnal trends. The system allows simultaneous plots of different parameters making it easy to identify co-relations.

Windrose Diagrams: Perhaps the most important use of Envirotech’s software will be to plot Windrose Diagrams. The Software provided with the WM280 generates colored Windrose in the standard format as shown. User selectable color schemes and a save option has been provided so that the diagrams can be easily incorporated in reports and presentations. Moreover, as Met log works through Windows you have complete freedom to use any Laser/ Inkjet printer supported by the Print Manager of your operating system.

Using commercially available remote desktop viewing software one can configure live viewing over TCP/IP or Internet The software also supports simultaneous viewing of graphs and reports for scientific analysis
